Epic History of Buffalo Chicken Wings – America’s Favorite Food

I am sure we have all asked this question, “Why are Buffalo Wings called Buffalo Wings?!?!!”

Yes, the name is very unique and a bit confusing. Today, Joe’s New York Pizza, home of the best pizza, Italian, and chicken wings in Las Vegas, is going to tell you a bit about one of America’s favorite dish and how it became one of the most beloved foods in the nation.

Origins

Chicken has been used throughout the years to feed many families. Every part of it can be used to make soup, add to salads, eat with rice, and other options. However, the location that takes credit for creating the iconic chicken wing recipe is Anchor bar in Buffalo, New York.

In 1964, owner Teressa Bellissimo, had to cook up a late night snack for her son and his friends. She got creative and threw the excess chicken wings into the fryer and dipped it into a delicious buttered spicy sauce. To cool the heart, she served with a side of fresh cut celery and blue cheese.

However, please keep in mind this is debatable. Another restaurant named Wings ‘n’ Things has also claimed to be the first in hot wings. Once people heard about these delicious wings, many restaurants around the nation began serving them. They began to mix it up and add different sauces to it. There are now hundreds of different variations and sauces for chicken wings. All range in hotness.

· In the city of Buffalo, NY, “Chicken Wing Day” is on July 29.

· On Super Bowl weekend, roughly 1.23 billion wings are eaten.

· 27 billion chicken wings are eaten each year.

· Home of the original Buffalo Wing, Anchor Bar, in a month sells approximately seventy thousand pounds of chicken.
